FotoByFriend  > School > Forty-Year W.H.S. Class of '65 Reunion (8-13-05)
Dear Classmates and Esteemed Teachers,

Can it truly be that, as of this writing, nearly a fortnight has come and gone since we gathered together at Sebert's Farm and good ol' Cold Springs? The activities of the day and evening of August 13, 2005, will remain vivid in my memory for a long, long time. There were indeed some wonderful moments.

I wanted to provide a record of "who's who" in the photos to which this letter will refer. As most of you are aware, it has been my custom to write and distribute summaries of our reunions. So this year I thought I would pen my follow-up report via detailed descriptions of the photos I took, along with whatever related observations might come to mind.

In a few instances, I will refer to some friendly "jabs" and the like that were tossed about. Please be advised that all comments were made in good fun. There was a mortar of love and respect that kept our class and the W.H.S. faculty together during our schooldays, and this ethereal bonding agent has continued to do so for nearly a half-century. I will always treasure that special-something that must have blown across the athletic fields, into the gym, through Reuah Bixler's cafeteria, down the hallways, between the aisles of wooden and metal desks in the classrooms -- and filled our very souls. I shall name this magic wind "Small-School Spirit" -- and it will live forever.

Here is a list of those who attended the reunion event(s): Nancy (Bricker) Carper & Marion Carper, Joe Eldridge, Niki (Ford) DeYoung & sister Cheryl (Ford) Davis, Bob Friend, Lee Friend, Judy (Hill) Hanna, Carolyn (Lesiuk) Wulff & Mark Wulff, Anna Rose "Rosie" (Lockwood) Powers, Bob & Deb McEntarfer, Karen (Pfefferkorn) Walker, John & Janet Phillips, Linda (Schulthess) Gradeless & Jim Scanlon, Don & Pam Sebert, Linda (Sebert) Madden, Jim & Connie Starkey, Den Sutton, Buff Toneman, Steve & Janice (Bolen) Ulm, Mr. Richard D. Bourquin & wife Jean, Mr. Larry Dove & wife Carolyn, Mr. Vollmar C. Fries & wife Laura, Mr. Hubert L. Stackhouse, Mr. Kenneth R. Stump & wife Nancy, Mrs. Marcelle Voss. To make the following descriptions less unwieldy, I will sometimes be designating classmates and spouses by first name only (last name if faculty member or faculty spouse).

Warmest regards till we meet again,
Bob Friend, Waterloo High School Class of 1965

•	00- I designed the booklet cover and T-shirt transfer on my computer. In my business, I usually do a rough sketch and then delegate the actual computerization -- so this was a bit of a challenge for me! The school picture is an enhanced version of something from an old Rosebud; Wildcat logos courtesy of Microsoft.
•	01- Bob F., Joe and Don -- just before leaving Don's utility barn to start the third annual W.E.R.W.A.C. bicycle ride.
•	02- John Phillips with son Brian at their family farm -- first stop on W.E.R.W.A.C. ride.
•	03- From L. to R.: John, Joe & Don -- with the cattle keepin' their cool.
•	04- Silhouetted against barn doorway, John (at right) explains to Don & Joe what it's like to raise 1700 head of cattle.
•	05- Calf seems to enjoy the taste of Bob's bike glove -- YUM!
•	06- John stopped milking cows some time ago -- he now raises calves to a certain age and sells them.
•	07- As we approached Den's old house (not shown here), I thought I spotted Niki. Sure enough, that's who it was. She was visiting her mom, who now lives there. What a pleasant run-in!
•	08- Joe & Don at the old depot in Waterloo. We heard that a government grant will make further restoration possible.
